Custom Cherry Baby Crib

This client was having their first child and their parents wanted to celebrate by having a custom crib made for the baby. The couple was very ecologically involved and wanted to insure that the wood did not come from areas that practiced poor forestation and also wanted a natural finish that would have no chemical outgassing.

We chose Appalachian Cherry. Also, we have a supply of some of the most spectacular quarter sawn cherry that we used for making the slats in the crib. The finish was simply hand oiled and waxed to bring out the deep beauty of the Cherry and to allow it to develop the richness of color that will come from age.

We used a design that was fully agency approved for the inner workings and then went about "softening" the look of the design with the use of soft flowing curves and subtle detailing, tapering and hand pegging.
