A table that celebrates the beauty of burl
This client wanted a hallway entry table that would fit into an angle nooked next to their front door.
They came over to the shop to look as some of our wood. I had recently seen the wood from a Big Leaf Maple Burl and I liked it so much I bought the entire darned thing !! It turns out that one of the "slices" from this burl had a shape that would really work nicely in their angled entrance area.
After several mockups, we came up with the following design. The legs are made from Utile and are designed to really bring the viewer's eyes to the beauty of the burl itself.
The back edge of the burl was left in its natural form and the front edge was soften and sculpted so that their grandchildren would not risk hitting their heads on a sharp edge.
