A Custom Conference Room Table
With this commission, we get to combine our wood working talents with
Betsy's great artistic talent.
This conference room table will be 10' long with cherry banding and
the interior field will be made from spectacular maple that is spalted,
flamed and curled. This is a very unique piece of wood. The client joked
in saying that he is in a "win-win" situation because he is
challenging Art to create a piece that equals Betsy's artwork and vice
versa.

We traveled to Virginia to be able to find cherry
logs that were large enough and of that quality needed to create
the table border. |

Each log is then resawn to yield the best figure and also to
meet the dimensions needed.
|

The edge portion completed. It was a unique challenge to have
the boat shape and at the same time have the mitered corners that
are 10' apart come together correctly. All joinery here is mortise
and tenon.
|

The resawn pieces of maple were book matched and then moved to
Betsy's studio so that she should work on the torn paper collage.
|

Once the collage is complete, it will be moved aside and the
boards taken down to the shop for forming and mounting in the
table
|

A detail of the collage against the wood
|

Betsy moves the collage down to the actual table so that we can
size and determine the bookmatching of the boards.
|

A test panel was made up for the client to approve. This is a
representation of how the final top will look. This is really
spectacular maple. The entire tree was wormed ambrosia, flamed
and curled so we bought the entire tree!

to be able to transport the top
|

We enlisted the aid of Jack's son, one of his friends and even
the client in getting the top up to the 2nd floor. ( Note: the
only smart one is Jack, supervising from below )
