Our Details Set us Apart

Whether it is carefully selecting just the right board from a 100 year old walnut tree for a hall table, returning calls on time, carrying extra floor mats to a client's site, we pride ourselves in giving full attention to the details all the time.

In addition, we recognize that effective communication with our clients is just as important as the quality of the work that we do. The following are some of the documents that we use.

They are available either in Microsoft Word format or in Adobe Acrobat ( pdf ) format.

The two methods we use for commissions

Needless to say, all of our furniture is hand made solid wood. However, for our custom built-in and entertainment style units units we have two different methods of building the commission.

Furniture Grade - This is the highest grade of commission. For these commissions, solid wood is used for
90-100% of the project. All boards are hand selected, sized, glued into panels and then planed and shaped to the desired shape. This is truly"furniture". We DO NOT offer painting as a finish option for furniture grade work. We simply feel that it is wrong to cover up beautiful wood with paint.

"Cabineture Grade" - We came up the word "Cabineture" as a way of describing the way we build our cabinets. The only real difference from Furniture Grade is that we build the units with a mix of solid wood and furniture grade veneered sheet goods. This saves in both material and labor costs while still maintaining a superior grade of work. We DO NOT use particle board in any of our work. Our sheet goods are A1 quality grade with fir cores. In this grade we do allow for painted finishes in addition to our normal stain finishes.

What we don't do ....

First and foremost, we do not attempt to compete with the mass produced ( often from China ) cabinetry that is often seen in discount and home center stores.

Many woodworking and cabinet companies tend to say .... "if it's wood we can make it".

We strongly feel that there is no way you can be truly skilled at all of aspects of woodworking. Thus, we focus on our strengths and gladly recommend other companies to our clients for solutions that we feel do not fit within our skillset.

Some of the areas we are not pursuing are:

Large Cabinetry installations: Many of our clients that we have done custom built-ins for have asked us to do such things as new kitchen cabinets for them. We are not a "cabinet" shop, in that we are not set up to cost effectively produce and install large numbers of kitchen cabinets so we refer our clients to shops that do have this capability. Likewise, many large cabinet shops do not want to be involved in custom built-ins for unique applications and they often refer their clients to us.

Furniture styles: Our foundations are built on the clean lines of Shaker, Greene and Greene, Japanese, Early American, Craftsman and Stickley styles. We are not well founded in the highly ornate styles of French Provincial, English Tudor or the Boston revival styles. Candidly we feel that designing a clean lined piece is often much harder to accomplish than the ornate ones simply because the piece must stand on its own and not rely on lots of ornate decorations.
