Our Standards
Wood Stewardship In today's hectic world, it might seem a bit old fashioned but we believe that, even as a small business we have a responsibility for stewardship of the wood that we use. This beautiful, fully renewable resource is one that is all too often taken for granted. However, we pride ourselves in using wood that is harvested with the care that it should be given. We try our best to insure that we are not using woods that are harvested irresponsibly. One example of this is Mahogany. Mahogany has been one of the driving woods for the deforestation of the rain forest. While there is a huge amount of wood that can be responsibly harvested from this area, it must be followed by replanting techniques and all too often countries avoid this extra cost. Thus we will use Honduran mahogany from existing stockpiles, African and Brazilian from plantation growers but we will not use any from Peru where they continue the slash and burn harvesting methods that are so destructive to the local environment. In our lifetime, we know that the total amount of wood that we will use in making our furniture is minuscule but the fact that we do some small part in protecting the beautiful resource for future generations brings us satisfaction. We are also proud to be accepted members of the Furniture
Society. We are also members of the national Cabinet Makers Association
